Debi Kocks, CRC

Lead Clinical Research Coordinator

Debi Kocks is a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne and attended Ball State University.  She has worked for Fort Wayne Neurological Center (FWNC) for over 19 years and has spent the last six years as a Clinical Research Coordinator. She oversees clinical trials for a wide spectrum of neurological disorders, ensuring that the trials go smoothly and that all data is accurately reported. Her highest priority is caring for the patients enrolled in the clinical trials and valuing their commitment and time. She is committed to ensuring that her patients receive the highest quality of care and compassion throughout their treatment at FWNRC.


Mindy Schroeder, MA/CRC

Clinical Research Coordinator

Mindy is a Medical Assistant and Clinical Research Coordinator at Fort Wayne Neurological Center. She has an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting from Ivy Tech College in Fort Wayne, IN. Mindy has worked in the medical field for over 25 years in both clinical and administrative roles. As a Research Coordinator, she is responsible for the organization and coordination of clinical research trials. She strives to make every patient feel comfortable and to keep them well informed at each study visit. Her favorite part of research is the patient care and developing that special bond and friendship with both patients and their families.


Keri Aeschliman, CMA/CCRC

Clinical Research Coordinator

Keri is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator and Certified Medical Assistant.  She has an Associate’s degree in Applied Science with a Medical Assisting specialty from Ivy Tech College in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Keri has worked in the research department at Fort Wayne Neurology since 2001 and has been a part of several trials with medications that are now approved therapies by the FDA.  She has been a part of multiple different neurology trials including Multiple Sclerosis, Headaches, Stroke, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy, Sleep Disorders and Pain Management. Getting to know and care for her patients is Keri’s favorite part of the research.  Great effort is taken to accommodate the patients and make them feel at ease and as comfortable as possible throughout their visits.

Brenda Spaletta - The Center for Neurological Research

Brenda Spaletta, LPN/CRC

Licensed Practical Nurse

Brenda Spaletta is a Licensed Practical Nurse who graduated from Fort Wayne Community Schools, School of Practical Nursing alongside her Mother, her role model, in 1980.  Brenda nursing background is extensive and quite diverse. She has worked in the medical field, in her hometown of Fort Wayne, for more than 35 years. Developing strong relationships working with clinical teams, investigators, and patients, is the foundation of everything she does as a Research Coordinator.


Karen Springer, M.S., N.P.-C.


Ms. Springer serves as a nurse practitioner. She has specialization in Parkinson’s disease and spasticity management. In addition, she practices general neurology. She has expertise in Deep Brain Stimulator programming and Intrathecal Baclofen Pump Management. She also has experience programming Vagal Nerve Stimulators. Her undergraduate degrees are from Lutheran Health Professionals and Ball State University. Ms. Springer received her master’s degree from Ball State University, graduating Cum Laude. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Sigma Theta Tau, an honor society for academic excellence in nursing. She is board certified by the ANCC as an adult NP.

Ms. Springer is also a 2018 graduate of Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program at the Parkinson’s Foundation (PF). As a PF Nurse Scholar, Ms. Springer joins the elite group who have completed this intensive training over the last nine years who go onto educate over 20,000 nursing students on PD annually.

Currently, Ms. Springer manages care and treatment of wide spectrum of neurological disorders with specialization in treatment of Parkinson’s disease and spasticity management at FWNC.


Stacy L. Johnson, MSN, FNP-C


Ms. Johnson serves as nurse practitioner in neurology, building upon her background as a registered nurse with focus on rehabilitation patients. Her undergraduate degree in Nursing was earned at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Ms. Johnson completed a master’s degree in nursing and is a family nurse practitioner.


Pamela McMaster, MSN, FNP-C


Ms. McMaster graduated cum laude with her Bachelor of Nursing Science degree from the University of Toledo and with her Master of Science and Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne. She has worked in the medical field for over 26 years in a variety of areas including neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, infectious disease, oncology and hospice. She is board certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center.


Julie Hall, MSN, FNP-C


Ms. Hall serves as a nurse practitioner in Neurology building on her extensive background in Otolaryngology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Her Bachelor of Science in Nursing was earned at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. She completed her Diploma in Nursing from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Lafayette, Indiana. Ms. Hall serves the practice with general neurology with emphasis in Epilepsy, migraine/headache and balance and dementia patients. She strives each day to treat each patient with care and compassion striving for excellent patient care. Teaching her patients to become their own advocate for their health and health care needs is very rewarding to her. She is Board Certified from the ANCC as a Family Nurse Practitioner.


Don Shook, CEO

Don Shook joined API / Ft. Wayne Neurological Center in March of 2017 as the CEO of API. He brings more than 35 years of healthcare administration and practice management to API. He completed his Bachelor degree in business at Lawrence Technological University in 1978 and his MBA at Notre Dame in 1990. He has worked in a financial and administrative role for hospital employed physicians groups and privately held groups as well.
